Tuesdays, September 2 - December 9, 6-9 pm
Instructor: Marilyn Bauman
The Violette de Mazia Foundation is pleased to present “Informed Perception: An Objective Approach to Aesthetic Appreciation.” This course, held in the galleries of The Barnes Foundation, explores visual expression and its relation to daily life.
Marilyn Bauman (director of education) will guide students to experience works of art directly, encourage them to make aesthetic discoveries, and enable them to undertake personal and independent analyses of works of art. The course will consist of group discussion, individual projects, readings, and direct encounters with the artwork in The Barnes Foundation collection.
Inspired by the writings of Albert Barnes, John Dewey, and Violette de Mazia, and based on Violette de Mazia’s 1920’s to 1980’s program of study at The Barnes Foundation, this seminar reinterprets their work and represents their concepts for 21st century students.
