Martha Marsey, OTR/L
Early in her career, Martha Marsey worked as a teacher. As a certified teacher
in the state of Delaware, she taught both regular and
special education classes at the middle school and secondary levels
for 6 years. She
taught general math and science in the New Castle County Vo-Tech
School District. For one year during this time, she
served as head of the special education department
at Delcastle Technical High School in Wilmington, DE. Marsey was also
certified to teach adult basic education classes, which she did for
3 years.
Returning
to school, Marsey attended the University of Pennsylvania,
where she studied Occupational Therapy. As a
licensed occupational therapist, Marsey has taught home and clinic
patients about ergonomics, exercise, joint protection,
adapted activities of daily living, and disease processes.
She has also presented in-services to various groups, such as the Lupus
Association of Delaware.
She currently works as an Occupational Therapy
consultant to a residential facility and to a middle
school in Delaware. She
adapts both curriculum and activities that meet the
needs of the challenged students and adults with whom she works.
She
has studied painting with Dennis Minch of Kennett Square,
E. Jean Lanyon of Delaware, and Marilyn Bauman of Delaware. A former
weaver, Marsey is an avid needleworker. She also plays the hammered
dulcimer, studying with the renowned musician Ken Kolodner of Baltimore.
Marsey recently completed the first, second, and third year courses
sponsored by the Violette de Mazia Foundation and held in
the galleries of The Barnes Foundation and on the campus
of Villanova University. She is currently co-teaching a course in
the objective method (of analyzing art) to sixth grade students.
