"The artist's expression is the result of...the interaction between what the subject was and that particular artist, with his own feelings, interests, imagination, background of experience and so on."
Violette de Mazia, "Method," The Barnes Foundation Journal of the Art Department, Vol. II, No. 1, Spring, 1971, p. 25

The Foundation has funded fully, or in part, two videos: Edward Loper: Prophet of Color and Harry Sefarbi Painter Teacher.

The Loper video presents the color-filled world of this well-known Delaware artist told entirely in the artist’s own words. Loper, who studied at The Barnes Foundation in classes taught by Violette de Mazia and Harry Sefarbi, objectively explains how he creates, teaches, and lives his life based on his Barnes’ learning experiences.

The Sefarbi video features Harry Sefarbi explaining, in concise, articulate, and intricate detail, the use of the objective method as it informs his own work and art in general. A 50-year career as the instructor of the Part II Tradition course at The Barnes Foundation, Sefarbi brings extraordinary clarity and penetrating insights to the understanding of the art in painting.
